12 November 2022: International Day of Environmental Struggle: Workers and Environmental Movement together against the destruction of the environment by capitalist greed for profit and the consequences of imperialist war

3 November: The International Coordination Group is deeply concerned about the accelerating destruction of the environment and the natural resources of humanity. Destruction of the earth's basic resources, such as deforestation of the Amazon jungles, global warming with the consequences of droughts and floods, rising levels of the world's oceans, rapid loss of biodiversity and outbreaks of pandemics have already cost thousands of lives. Millions of people are losing their livelihoods and becoming environmental refugees.

Since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, the danger of a 3rd nuclear world war has become acute. This can lead in the long run to the annihilation of the entire mankind. With the bombing of Europe's largest nuclear power plant in Zaporizhia in Ukraine, a nuclear catastrophe is being calculated in.

Many governments are practicing a rollback in environmental policy. Global warming is fueled by their persistence and expansion of fossil fuel power plants, instead of accelerating the shift to renewable energy. The highly risky expansion of nuclear power plants, some of which are ailing, is producing more nuclear waste and increasing the risk of another Fukushima. The fairy tale of clean electricity serves as a distraction from the profit maximization of the energy companies. Rigorously the costs of the war and the crises are passed on to the workers and their families.

On a new level, competition has broken out among the car companies to accelerate the transition to electromobility. They have already destroyed thousands of jobs and closed entire plants. The bosses are deliberately playing the workforces off against each other in an blackmail-like manner, as at Ford Valencia/Spain and Saarlouis/Germany. Billions are invested in plants for electric vehicles and battery cells. In many cases, Greenwashing is used to pretend that this only serves climate protection. With the demand for masses of batteries, the economic war for gas and oil is unfolding, as well as the war for rare earths, semiconductor chips, and so on.

For us automotive workers, this cannot mean to let ourselves be harnessed to the cart of the intensified competition of the international automotive monopolies. We condemn any Greenwashing and demand both, jobs and the protection of the environment. We are on the side of all fighters against imperialist wars. We stand side by side with the environmental activists in the Amazon jungle or against the expansion of destructive coal mining in Colombia. We demonstrate together with the youth of Fridays for Future. We are part of the protesters of the militant environmental movement on the occasion of the World Climate Conference from November 6 to 18 in Sharm El Sheik in Egypt. We are demonstrating together with the worldwide peace movement against all imperialist wars and for the protection of the natural environment.

We call for making November 12 a worldwide day of action for the protection of the natural environment. For the international day of environmental struggle we become active in the work places, trade unions and cities.

Workers and environmental movement together against the environment destroying profit economy and imperialist wars!

For the protection of the natural environment and the preservation of human health!

Long live International Solidarity!
