ICOG Solidarity Message: Declaration of protest against arrests in the Philippines
16 October 2022: Just 3 days after the 10th anniversary of the Global Day of Struggle for Decent Work, the Internationalism Officer of the KMU Kara Taggaoa union and the President of the PASADO-Piston union Larry Valbuena were arrested.
We condemn the threats, persecution and targeted arrests of representatives of trade unions and workers' interests under the new government in the Philippines. This serves primarily to obstruct the struggle of workers and their unions on trumped up charges against leading representatives.
We demand the immediate release of Kara Taggaoa and Larry Valbuena, as well as all political prisoners in the Philippines!
