General attack by the VW Group on European workers

December 5, 2024: IAC-VW-Group-Coordination: Dear friends all over the world, my name is Peter and I am the international spokesman for the militant VW colleagues in the International Automotive Workers' Conference (IAC). I was elected at the 2nd International Automotive Workers Conference in South Africa. I would like to inform you that the VW Board of Management is carrying out a general attack on the entire VW workforce, at least in Germany. There will be redundancies in steel industry, at Ford, at many large suppliers such as Bosch and many other companies. A total of 300,000 are to be made redundant.

Workers unity across corporations and industries

What is new is that the approach is very brutal. There is no attempt to avoid the conflict, but the ultimate demand is to cut so-called “labor costs”, i.e. above all wages and jobs. We suspect that this approach will also set an example for other European countries.

VW is still paying out billions in dividends. The company wants to reduce its so-called overcapacity in Europe in order to be number 1 worldwide. Capitalists will walk over dead bodies for maximum profit!

There is an intense struggle among colleagues at VW in Germany about how to behave in this situation. The idea of the “VW family” is bursting and the will to fight is growing, but there is still hope for the IG Metall or the works council to lead this fight. You know that there is no right to strike in Germany and that the colleagues have to take it themselves. If this hurdle is overcome, the struggle can be successful. It would be good if you could also publicize the situation in Germany through your connections.

If you could send solidarity greetings to your German VW colleagues, that would be very welcome. We want to make them known and thus support the workers. How do you see the possibility of a joint struggle?

Best wishes from the VW workers in Germany
