Especially in today's situation, with the danger of world war growing and fascism on the rise worldwide following the US attack on Iran in violation of international law, the ongoing genocide in Gaza, and the murderous war in Ukraine, our conference is gaining in importance. It is the practical counterproof against nationalist narrow-mindedness and social-chauvinist propaganda along the lines of “my country, my company first”. International workers' unity is the power that can successfully oppose the reactionary course and attacks of the corporations.
However, binding registrations are slow to come in. This is a prerequisite for the overall success of the conference. We should not underestimate the effort involved in applying for visas and organizing all the preparations for accommodation, meals, etc. On the website of International Automotive Workers Coordination www.automotiveworkers.org, there is a link to the online registration form, which can also be used for group registrations.
The International Coordination Group (ICOG) agreed to give special emphasis at the conference to the struggle against fascism and war, in addition to workplace and social issues. A resolution is to be adopted on this, the draft of which is to be discussed critically and self-critically in all countries beforehand. In this spirit, the International Automotive Workers movement will also participate in activities against war on Anti-War Day and encourage this in workplaces and trade unions. A delegation from the International Automotive Workers' Movement will participate in the Zimmerwald Conference 2.0 on September 6, 2025, in Zurich, Switzerland. A broad spectrum of forces from the peace movement is expected to attend this forum for the international exchange of opinions and experiences and joint action against fascism and war.
The ICOG calls on all participants to also get involved in preparing the thematic and corporate forums. Please register with the ICOG by August 9, 2025. Suggestions for working titles so far are:
1) Open battle for destruction in the automotive and supplier industry, time to act
2) Against the division of the workforce. How do we further develop international cooperation and coordination of struggles?
3) The struggle for higher wages and the improvement of the social situation of families
4) Trade union unity against union busting
5) The struggle for democratic rights and freedoms, for the right to strike
6) Auto workers against sexism
7) Occupational safety and health protection
8) Vocational training and perspectives of the struggle of young automotive workers
9) Automotive workers against fascism and war
10) What can be done against global environmental destruction? What kind of mobility do we need for the future?
11) International united front against imperialism, fascism, war, and environmental destruction
12) Automotive workers for a future without exploitation and oppression
However, we are also open to further suggestions. The ICOG will coordinate this internationally.
At its meeting, the ICOG was able to assign initial personnel to the 16 teams and team leaders of the Multilateral Assistance Staff (MAS). Further applications are welcome and necessary, including for the office team, translation team, culture team, event and translation technology team.
